The defining feature of this filter element is its continuous porous cylindrical wall. Liquid or gas can pass through the tube surface along its working length, allowing the component to function as a filter, gas distributor or sparging element depending on how it is installed. The tubes can be produced in 316L or 904L stainless steel, Monel, Hastelloy, Inconel or titanium, with OD from 4–220 mm, ID from 2–210 mm, lengths from 2–1000 mm and nominal pore sizes from 0.1–90 μm. Custom diameter, wall dimensions, length, alloy and pore grade are all established design variables for porous metal tubes.
In filtration service, the long cylindrical surface provides working area for particle capture while keeping the component compact enough for vessels, pipelines and process assemblies. The same porous wall can also distribute gas across a larger surface for sparging, aeration or gas-liquid contacting, and can provide controlled gas flow in fluidization equipment. These functions make the tube suitable for chemical processing, reaction systems, water and environmental equipment, gas-distribution systems and selected food-processing equipment. Special alloy selection can also support more demanding chemical or temperature environments, while cleaning and reuse depend on the contaminant and operating process.
